Who we are

Amelia is a multi faceted creative individual, an Artist, Florist, Gardener and Horticulturalist. So whether you’re looking for garden design inspiration, one-off floral creations as gifts or for showcasing events we won’t hesitate to help you out. I started life in a small village on the outskirts of Marlborough, surrounded by the beautiful Wiltshire countryside. So, after completing a Fine Arts BA at the University of the Arts London, Central Saint Martins, it may not have been too much of a surprise that as a creative person struggling to find stability and my thing in the London arts scene, I would naturally gravitate towards my roots and the opportunities nature might offer me in London. I grabbed the London life experience with both hands, jumping in feet first as I seem to do with much of what I get into. Evenings were a mix of part-time bar and restaurant jobs. By day, based in Regents Park, London, I busied myself devouring The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) course syllabus as I took on a basic understanding of processes and techniques of horticulture. This led to me securing a role as a garden keeper at Horniman Museum and Gardens under the watchful eye of the Head Gardener Erol Ferdenaz. During this time, I completed the Level 2 RHS Horticulture Diploma in 2021.

Floristry and a move into flowers

Having determined that the rigidity of gardening might not always satisfy my craving to create. I managed to bag several jobs working in top-end, exclusively fashionable florists across Marylebone and Belgravia, London, where I made the most of my newfound floral and botanical horticultural knowledge, which also came in extremely handy for stock orders. Floristry came naturally to me. I had an eye for colour, shape, form, and texture, which I learnt and practised in my student years in photography, sculpture, printmaking, and installation. Once filled with metal and mosaics, the canvas would now be filled with stems and seed heads, and it wasn’t long before I realised I could create beautiful bouquets from my Camberwell kitchen table, unburdened from any visual constraints and free to experiment and ameliadarcey.gardenstudio was born.
