MIFGS 2025 ameliadarcey.gardenstudio
Using sustainable floristry techniques, this design is inspired by Victoria's natural landscapes and the life and death cycles of our gardens. The work will culminate in a central arrangement. The floral design will encompass all elements of the surrounding ‘set’/ garden. The piece includes arranged sculptures composed of deadwood, branches, flowers, and pruned stems collected while gardening in Melbourne. The sense of locality and home isn't just a feeling—it's a reality. Vibrant, soft and warm colour palettes intertwine with dark and light to resemble a feeling of home. The design encompasses whimsical shapes, organic forms and collected materials. ‘
‘Cotinus’ deep purple foliage and clouds of white ‘Hydrangea ‘Annabelle’ with feathery fern textures are both enticing and striking in the central arrangement. Oversized and spiralling rose stems stream from this focal point, thus drawing the eye to the surrounding features of the display. Hay bales inspired by Monet frame the space. These are awash with various grasses and prunings. The aim of this is to convey the beauty and elegance of spent flower stems. The floral design has a depth of storytelling conveyed through specifically chosen items, from upcycled doors, cricket stumps and an antique ladder.
This design by ameliadarcey.gardenstudio demonstrates how we can use seasonal foliage and blooms, particularly after pruning to create local and intuitive floral designs from our very own backyards.
