Nicholson st, brunswick east, melbourne, vic

Design Brief

low maintenance, colour, high use of flowering varieties, native and non native mix of plants.

Concept

A self sustaining garden with plenty of flowering species. Garden designed to be cut back just once a year, when spent flowering stems have died back completely, hollowed and become structural they will be tied together in sculptural ‘haybales’. Annual Pruning of the ‘Cornus’ will take place in early spring to encourage bushy growth, stems kept throughout winter for dramatic red colouring. Reclaimed Bluestone pavers were sourced from local landscaper as waste product, and used to break up the large space into three parts, enabling different viewing points of the garden. The choice of plants and the natural height was also considered in this sub dividing of the space. The central lines from the road up to the house consider this aspect of viewing and tier down in soft swathes and clumping forms.
